Potions Class.
Just like in the books, a Hogwarts Week would not be complete without a Potions Class.
We had our own Snape (AKA Brent the RA), and he gave all the participants directions to different potions that we could do!
There were ones like homemade lava lamps, gas filled balloons, freshly made goo, and others! It was a very entertaining night, and we even ended it with a Diet Coke and Mentos Challenge!!
Here's some pictures of experiments that happened in the dungeons/basement that night.

Sorting Ceremony
Like the beginning to any story about Hogwarts, there has to be a sorting ceremony.
Everyone involved in Hogwarts week gathered in the living room to be sorted into the Houses featured in the Harry Potter series.
The brave and daring were put into Gryffindor.
The smart and creative were put into Ravenclaw.
The loyal and hardworking were put into Hufflpuff.
And the ambitious and cunning were put into Slytherin.
(Or, you just chose out of a bowl and were assigned a house.)
But let's just assume the magical powers around us predetermined this fate, shall we?
There were even cupcakes decorated in the House colors for eating after the ceremony. It was a fun start to a fantastic week at Hogwarts. :D
Here are the pictures of the Houses! :D

HOGWARTS WEEK at Collin's Hall?
For a whole week Collin's Hall got the opportune chance of having a Harry Potter themed week. Planned by our wonderful RA's.
We got to participate in many Hogwarts related events.
We had a sorting ceremony, an Ollivander's wand making shop, Palmistry class with Palm readings, and other activities!!
There was also a House Cup with house points. House points were given when people attended events, and did special 'things' at these events!
This was a very fun week, that got the whole hall involved. The house rivalries came out, and it got a little competitive. But it was an overall FUN experience for ALL!
More Posts on the activities to come!!!

PUMPKIN CARVING!
Collin's had the awesome chance of carving pumpkins for the Halloween festivities!
The residents gathered outside and got to carve their pumpkins into any designs that their little hearts desired!
It was a fun event that a lot of people got involved in, and participated in!
It's alright, you can be a little jealous. :)

Art Gallery
For the residents in Collins who have talents that differ from others, Collins Hall put on an Art Gallery!
For those painters, drawers, sketchers, photographers, and people who have talents of the art typing, we gave them a chance to strut their stuff!
We allowed anyone who wanted to enter art in, and we displayed it for a whole night! It ended up being a fun program, and a lot of residents came to appreciate the artwork!
It was quite an ART-TASTIC night!!
Here's some pictures of some displays and artwork! :D
Enjoy!

Empty Bowl's Program!
The Empty Bowl's Program was a charity event that Collin's Hall participated to help the Empty Bowl's Program in Oxford!!
This event was to raise awareness of hunger in the community, and raise money for the program. Which supports local food banks and soup kitchens!
For this, the hall painted bowls that would go up for auction!! Making this event FUN and HELPful. :D

Collins goes to Chi-town!
This past weekend Collins residents had the opportunity to visit Chicago. Thirty-nine students and staff boarded a Chicago-bound bus Friday and returned Monday night. While in Chicago, students got the chance to visit The Art Institute of Chicago, Millennium Park, the Bean, Navy Pier, The Frank Lloyd Wright House and The Willis Tower Sky Deck. Students visited Ford Theater to watch the performance of In The Heights and Giordano's to indulge in classic Chicago-style pizza.
Black light euchre party!
If you live in Collins, chances are you play euchre. A lot of euchre. So Collins sponsored a black light euchre party complete with colored light bulbs and glow sticks!
Got Pie?
Last night Collins residents gladly took part in pie-ing our RA's and Community Council President for $2 a pie! It was quite a sticky situation.
The Salt & Pepper Show!
Every Monday night 11pm-12am Collins' very own Kevin Bjerre (Salt) and Bryan Washington (Pepper) host The Salt & Pepper radio show!

High Ropes!
Last Saturday, October 29, Collins residents and RA Brent went to the high ropes course! The group was blessed with beautiful weather for the event, while working on team building skills, stepping out of our comfort zones (quite literally), supporting each other, and having a great time. What better way to spend a Halloween weekend afternoon than chillin' 40 feet above ground secured by two ropes and a harness?!
Special thanks goes out to Erica, Gomez, and Janelle at high ropes!

Coffee House!
This month's Coffee House, coordinated by Nathan Hackmann, was a success! We had singing, dancing, multiple guitar and piano talents, a display of architecture work, and more. Unfortunately, the videotaping of each talent will only be available for viewing on the Collins Hall Facebook page, due to the fact that we do not have the "Pro" version of this blogging site. D:
We have an Assassins winner: congratulations to Madeline Hrybyk!
Are you being hunted? Assassins is under way!
Assassins is under way at Collins! The game began earlier this week with 28 players and 6 remain. The rules of the game are:
1. Collins and in-session classes are safe houses.
2. Assassins kill their targets by marking them with a marker, anywhere but on the face.
3. When you assassinate someone, their target becomes your new target.
Once someone has been assassinated their picture is crossed off on the assassins board so everyone knows who is still in the game. The competition is getting fierce! Alliances have been formed (and broken) and the assassins are going to extremes to find their targets outside of Collins' walls, while avoiding those who might be out to get them. The assassins are employing friends to spy for them, alert them on the whereabouts of their targets, and about those who are hunting them down! So far the game has moved quickly, but is slowing down with each kill.
There are currently two strategies being used by the players: some are out to assassinate as many people as possible, while others are doing their best to be invisible and stay out of sight. There are players still in the game who have yet to assassinate anyone!
Stay tuned for an update on the game and pictures/videos of this months Coffee House!

Is this real life?! ...Welcome to Collins.
You are currently viewing the RHA site for Collins Hall, run by a Collins resident. Collins is a residence hall located on East Quad at Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio. Collins is the Celebrate the Arts residence hall (and it's Celebrate the Arts year here at Miami!) and we pride ourselves on being one big family! Collins is relatively small compared to some of the halls on campus, and almost all of us have something in common. Upon entering Collins you will likely hear a piano playing, anywhere from one to thirty people singing (in tune), multiple guitars in jam sessions, and members of the band and orchestra practicing. It's never quiet in Collins! You're likely to see multiple artworks framed on our walls, murals in several rooms including the main entrance, and upwards of fifteen people hanging out in each of our living areas at any given time. Enjoy the blog!
RHA stands for the Residence Hall Association, which is the largest on-campus organization at Miami, serving over 7,000 students. To visit the Miami RHA website, click here.
